Dr Mark is a Consultant Ear Nose Throat Surgeon and is in charge of Sleep Services in Ascent Ear Nose Throat Specialist Group. His special interests include the treatment of Snoring, Obstructive Sleep Apnoea, Sleep Disorders, Nasal obstruction and Thyroid lumps.

Formerly from the Singapore General Hospital (SGH), Dr Mark provided subspecialty services in Snoring and Sleep Disorders to the hospital’s ENT Department and Sleep Disorders Unit when he was there. He is now concurrently a Visiting Consultant and Adjunct Senior Lecturer with the ENT Department in the National University Hospital.
Dr Mark received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore in 1994. He underwent his specialty training in ENT in Singapore under the National ENT Training programme. He completed his Membership examinations in Surgery and was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1999.
In 2002, he obtained his Master of Medicine (Otorhinolaryngology) from the National University of Singapore and completed his Fellowship examinations from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
Dr Mark was awarded the SingHealth Health Manpower Development Plan Award in 2005 to do a fellowship in Sleep Surgery at Stanford University, USA.
The Sleep Disorders Clinic at Stanford University is a leading clinical and research centre internationally well known for Sleep Medicine. Dr Mark was fortunate to be able to spend time there with the leaders of Sleep Medicine to benefit from their vast experience in this area. He also trained under the leading pioneers of Sleep Surgery in Stanford University who first described and refined many of the surgical procedures currently in use today for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. He passed the American Board Examinations in Sleep Medicine in 2006 and qualified as a Certified International Sleep Specialist by the American Board of Sleep Medicine.
While he was with the Singapore General Hospital, Dr Mark was in charge of running the Sleep Clinic in the Department of Otolaryngology to streamline the management of patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. He was also on staff at the Sleep TBA O Disorders Unit in SGH (The Sleep Disorders Unit is a multi-disciplinary unit consisting of Neurologists, Respiratory Physicians, Psychiatrists, ENT surgeons, Dental Specialists, Psychologists and Sleep Technicians providing comprehensive outpatient and inpatient care to patients with sleep disorders.) to treat patients with Sleep Disorders and to provide surgical expertise to patients who require surgery for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea and Snoring.
Dr Mark was the Chairman of the organising committee of the first Sleep Surgery Course in Singapore in 2008 and has given many lectures as faculty in medical conferences and courses both locally and internationally on the topic of sleep and sleep apnoea. He teaches medical students at the National University of Singapore regularly as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer and he is still active in giving talks to doctors and general practitioners on sleep and other ENT related topics. His involvement in the National University of Singapore also includes being on the Board of Examiners for the Masters of Medicine Examinations for ENT.
Dr Mark had played various management roles in medical institutions, bodies and associations. He was the chairman of organising committee for the inaugural Singapore Sleep Awareness Week 2010 (SSAW) held in March 2010. He was a vice president and president of the Singapore Sleep Society.
He has published and reviewed articles in medical journals and has also written a textbook for medical professionals about sleep studies to help them understand and interpret sleep study results.
